Meera and Rahul had a beautiful late summer Indian engagement celebration at The City Rooms. Their guests arrived mid-morning at our venue and enjoyed breakfast, juices, teas and coffees before heading up for the ceremony in our Ballroom. Just after noon the couple had beautiful photos taken around and outside our venue, alone and with their lovely guests. The beautiful couple and their nearest and dearest were then called back to our Ballroom for lunch, cooked by our in-house specialist Indian chef, Rishi.
After lunch and some late-afternoon entertainment many of the guests departed, with the happy couple, their families and close friends staying on for an after party.
Meera said: “When we began planning our engagement there were a few things that were so important to me and Rahul. Firstly we wanted our engagement to have as little pressure as possible for those organising and attending. We also knew the food had to be amazing. The food tasting and being able to talk to Rishi whenever we needed to made planning the food for our day really stress free. Lastly, creating a calm and collected environment on the day was crucial – this was truly achieved by all the staff on hand.”
Following a complimentary food tasting with Rishi, Meera and Rahul chose to serve their guests chili paneer, crispy bhajiya and aloo papdi chaat as starters, followed by tarka dhal, chana masala and a potato curry, accompanied with rice, naan and raita. Guests were then served a dessert course of gulab jamum and gajar halwa and ice cream.
What are the three things Meera loved most about her engagement day? We asked her…
“Well the first moment is when we both snuck off to the balcony on the morning of the engagement to see the Ballroom before our guests arrived. Seeing the venue dressed up made us both think ‘this is real!’
“Secondly it was the anticipation of walking into the Ballroom to see all our guests – this made me incredibly nervous. To calm my nerves, Carly and the other staff were talking to us – we just laughed and joked about embarrassing moments we all shared! This coupled with the doors opening, us clasping hands and walking in to see everyone who came to see us was incredibly memorable.
“Lastly, in the evening, we had a few of our family and friends back for the evening party and being able to spend time with them and recollect the events of the day was the perfect end to the day.”
Meera had this to say about our Events Manager Carly: “She was amazing! Carly had taken time out of her holiday to be present at our Engagement. She was on hand to provide help and support. Further to this, she made our families (including guests) feel at ease. Thank you Carly!”
Joanne and James had a beautiful Good Friday wedding at The City Rooms, with a gorgeous Civil Ceremony followed by a wedding breakfast and reception.
The couple’s civil ceremony was truly beautiful – they had draping creating a soft and romantic ambience, with salmon pink chair sashes and flowers adorning the aisle chairs. Post-ceremony as the guests made their way downstairs for a drinks reception and the couple made a confetti exit, our team set to work to turn the room around for their wedding breakfast.
Joanne said: “We wanted our wedding to be quite traditional and the setting to be the same. We felt that The City Rooms gave us this, especially because of the grand piano which we used both for the ceremony and wedding breakfast. Also we wanted our wedding to be fun, sometimes weddings can have a lull. So it was really important we kept our guests entertained. We had a magician throughout the breakfast, a sweet cart and had a Latin band in the evening.”
Joanne and James sought the services of the lovely Fiona from Vintage Fare to help them with their wedding décor, she made our Ballroom look even prettier than it is. She put together gorgeous floral arrangements for our candelabras and lovely chair sashes which showed off our Chiavari chairs perfectly whilst adding a romantic touch.
The evening guests were treated to cake (from the amazing Baker St Cakes), a candy cart in our Dining Room, a games room for children and an evening buffet.
What does it take to put together such a wonderful wedding? We asked the lovely Joanne: “Honestly we relied mostly on Carly Penney the Events Manager to guide us through the day – she was amazing! Also I sourced a lot of my items from Allandale Road. I only live around the corner and managed to source our flowers, wedding cake, favours, wedding rings and presents for the bridesmaids from this little shopping area.”
And the most memorable part of their wedding day? “That would be the wedding dance, the speeches and when my son cried handing over the wedding rings.”
Finally, any tips for brides and grooms-to-be planning their wedding? “Keep calm and don't stress!”

Alex and Dan married at the Town Hall and followed this with a reception at The City Rooms.
The couple chose a contemporary theme for their wedding, with a quirky twist incorporating a fusion of colours into their decorations.
Their wedding meal consisted of Parma ham and melon salad followed by a main course of roast leg of lamb, finished with sticky toffee pudding. Guests were then treated to a delicious buffet and wedding cake.
This was such a beautiful wedding and the bride herself made all her wedding flower decorations. She chose butterflies as one of the main themes of the wedding and incorporated them into her place-cards and on her wedding cake.
The couple had the fantastic Cream Entertainments for their disco and chose a band called Squeeze Box to keep guests dancing until early the next morning!
It was such a fun wedding with great guests and a fantastic couple. All at The City Rooms were delighted to assist in making their wedding day spectacular.

Carly and Jordan married at their local church in Markfield and followed this with a beautiful reception at The City Rooms for 115 guests.
The couple opted for a traditional style of décor with lots of white and soft pinks along with lace and voile.
Guests were treated to Gressingham duck, mini fish and chips and chocolate strawberries for canapés during the drinks reception. They then enjoyed a delicious three-course meal created by the talented chefs at The City Rooms, consisting of tuna and lime fishcakes to start, pan fried chicken wrapped in Parma ham for the main course and sticky toffee pudding for dessert.
Carly and Jordan put in a lot of effort with their decorations selecting stunning flower decorations supplied by Emma at Belle Fleur (please link www.belle-fleur.co.uk) and Emma also supplied one of the most amazing cakes we have ever come across at The City Rooms. The couple chose to gift guests with customised biscuits for their favours which the wedding party seemed to love!
The wedding was so much fun, all the guests were so friendly and the bride and groom made the wedding feel like a big family party.
Andy and Navjot tied the knot and celebrated their big day at The City Rooms. More than 150 guests attended the wedding and the ceremony was held in our beautiful Ballroom.
The couple had the Ballroom draped with gold and white material to compliment the gold sashes on the chair covers. Personal touches made this wedding even more special, with a carved woodwork of the couple’s initials, N&A, displayed in the Ballroom.
The harpist played as the bridesmaids entered before the grand entrance of stunning bride Navjot and her father. All eyes were on Navjot and Andy as they met at the top of the aisle.
After the ceremony The City Rooms’ operations team transformed the Ballroom from being the ceremony room to the formal wedding breakfast.
Andy and Navjot treated their guests to a delicious three-course meal; some of the dishes prepared by our wonderful in-house chefs included sheesh kebabs, onion bhajis, pea & paneer curry, chick-pea curry and chicken curry. Dessert was a trio of panacotta, mini raspberry cheesecake and chocolate truffle cake.
Andy added his own personal touch and named the tables after Man City football players. Both Andy and Navjot planned every detail of their day from tasting to mock table set ups. They chose the menu and even brought in local ale for their guests to enjoy.
The room was also made beautiful with the help of some talented wedding suppliers. The draping was set up by More Productions (please insert a link to www.moreproduction.co.uk/) chair covers were supplied and dressed by Rainbow Linen (please add a link to www.rainbowlinenhire.com/) and our candelabras were decorated with flowers by Belle Fleur (please insert link to www.belle-fleur.co.uk/)
The Ballroom looked absolutely stunning on the day and Navjot and Andy have all these stunning photographs taken by the talented Matt Stanton (please link to www.mjstanton.com)
It was a fantastic wedding and the wedding coordinators and staff at The City Rooms would like to wish Navjot and Andy all the very best for their future and thank them for choosing The City Rooms as the venue of choice for their special day!
A beautiful vintage inspired wedding took place at The City Rooms in June. The couple really wanted to incorporate as many beautiful vintage items as possible and in doing so creating a stunning wedding. Holding their ceremony in our magnificent Ballroom they incorporated flowers and decorations with a vintage twist.
The bride opted for a broach bouquet instead of fresh flowers and had a broach attached to the bridesmaids bouquets. During the drinks reception guests were asked to leave a message on a vintage typewriter instead of the traditional guestbook and old luggage boxes were transformed in to the most amazing table plan. As guests took their seats for dinner their names were written on luggage tags as placecards and birdcages stood in the middle of the table as grand centrepieces.
An old school candy cart was hired and placed in the Ballroom for everyone to help themselves, just like being back at school.
The City Rooms makes a stunning backdrop for a winter wedding and this couple were a delight to work with from start to finish. On a crisp December afternoon Marc and Kerry married infront of family and friends at Burbage Church. Arriving at The City Rooms at 6pm guests were treated to a glass of bubbles and relaxing background music. Once guests were seated in the magnificent Ballroom they were treated to a menu of Stilton and Broccoli Soup, Lamb Shank and Sticky Toffee Pudding all made freshly on site by our team of chefs.
The fantastic Ian Hill Duo entertained guests throughout dinner and as evening guests arrived downstairs to a selection of homemade canapés the band ‘The Speech’ got the party started with a fantastic music set. The couple used a deep navy blue colour scheme and highlighted this in the mens suits, chair sashes and décor on the tables. Using the City Rooms candleabras created an amazing feel in the Ballroom.
In October last year we were thrilled to host a Hollywood themed wedding here at TCR’s. Guests entered our Ballroom for the civil ceremony along a sweeping red carpet and witnessed the marriage vows of Beth and Jamie. Following the ceremnony guests were treated to cocktails and canapés followed by a delicious 3 course meal.
In the evening the couple ordered hot dogs and chip cones for guests to nibble on and had Mojitos and Cosmopolitans served throughout. The Ballroom was decorated in fabulous Hollywood glamour with a cut out Marilyn Monroe even in attendance! Movie clapper boards were placed on every table and a popcorn machine was available if guests were peckish.
